Step 3: Tooth Preparation, Impressions for Permanent Crown
In this step, you will undergo a general health check, including measuring blood pressure, assessing heart health, etc., to ensure you are in good health for the dental crown procedure. If your health condition meets the requirements, the area where the dental crown will be placed will be numbed for the procedure.
Afterward, the dentist will proceed to prepare the tooth by gently removing about 0.5 – 1mm of the outer tooth structure to create space for the porcelain crown. Depending on the chosen type of crown, you might have the option to select the color and shape of the crown that you desire.
Next, a temporary crown will be placed over the prepared tooth while waiting for the final porcelain crown to be created. This temporary crown ensures aesthetics, prevents any gaps, and safeguards the prepared tooth. Temporary crowns are typically made from sturdy resin materials.
